Lesson three

Today was the first lesson where I felt we started making progress with our piece as Charlie had started to create his individual piece and I really liked the idea behind it, of being personal to one of the audience members. From this we got the idea to each take an audience member and make it personal to them- by finding out who was coming to the performance as soon as we could. As we knew for certain our teacher Will would be coming, Charlie decided to make his individual scene personal to him. At our site there were a few round tables with red table clothes on them and Charlie had incorporated them into his piece as if he would be on a date with one of the audience members, which I thought was a good idea from the found objects. Nicolas also talked about and showed his idea which focused on coming out and same sex relationships as there was also a large closet on our site which was quite eye drawing, which made us think we should use it as the audience would be drawn to it. Personally, I was still struggling to think of a strong idea with my individual scene, but was trying to draw inspiration from a particular locker which was filled with rubbish. From this I thought about the streets and from this I thought about love for homeless people, yet I still couldn't think of how I would use the site to my advantage.

Lesson two

Today we realised that the area contained a lot of messages about safety and a lot of safety paraphernalia- such as fire extinguishers. From this we started to think about what kind of safety and security love brings with it, and how we could express this in a story. Ideas to do with financial security and the safety of always having someone there came up, but none of us felt like these stories would be very engaging for the audience and could be performed in a conventional theatre space very easily. This week we also started to notice that most of the found objects in our site were moved and replaced with something different, as the site is right next to technical theatre. Through this we came up with the idea of all of us doing our own little individual scenes (all with the theme of love) as it represented the change of the site.

Lesson one

Today we began by exploring our site and seeing the different properties and found objects which we could use as inspiration for the piece. When choosing the site the thing that drew me to it was the lockers, with all the different types of locks on them, and it instantly made me think of the love lock bridges. These bridges are a place where couples attach a padlock and throw away the key as a sign of their love for each other, and so when the lockers reminded us of this we agreed on the theme of love.
